 Abstract:  Brooklyn Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio was organized in 1818, and included territory west of the Cuyahoga River that later became Ohio City, West Cleveland, Old Brooklyn, and Brighton, all of which eventually were annexed by the city of Cleveland; and Linndale, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, and portions of Lakewood, which became independent municipalities. Early settlers of Brooklyn Township included the Brainard, Fish, Clark, Young, Barber, and Foote families. The collection consists of Township trustees' minutes (1861-1922), township fund, school fund, and poor fund accounts (1855-1924), Board of Education proceedings (1891-1911), criminal case dockets (1856-1905), civil case dockets (1867-1905), and two record books of the Cuyahoga Steam Furnace Company (1832-1834 and 1851-1871).

2Title:  Samuel Williamson Family Papers

 Abstract:  Samuel Williamson (1772-1834) was a judge of the Ohio Court of Common Pleas. His son, Samuel Jr. (1808-1884), was an Ohio state legislator. His grandson, Samuel E. (1844-1903), was also a Common Pleas Court Judge. Another grandson, James D. (1849-1935), was a minister. His great-grandsons, Frederick E. (1876-1944) and Arthur P. (1884-1973), were businessmen. The collection consists of the papers of the Williamson family, including business papers, deeds, a journal of James D. Williamson's trip to Europe (1914), newspaper clippings, court documents, genealogical material, memorial books, and letters of the Day-Ely family.

3Title:  Calvin Pease Papers

 Abstract:  Calvin Pease (1776-1839) was a lawyer, legislator and judge, of Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio, in the Connecticut Western Reserve. Pease came to the Western Reserve from Connecticut in 1800. He was admitted to the bar and was appointed the first clerk of the court of quarter sessions, a position he held until 1803. He served as judge of the Third Circuit, Court of Common Pleas (1803-1810), and justice of the Ohio Supreme Court (1816-1830). Pease also served as a tax collector, primarily in Trumbull County, from 1801-1819. He served in the Ohio state legislature from Trumbull County, and also was the official agent for the U.S. postmaster-general in northeastern Ohio. He was a delegate to the canal convention meeting in Warren in 1833. Pease continued the private practice of law until his death at Warren in 1839. The collection consists of correspondence; personal papers including land records, tax records, bank notes and accounts; business papers including bills, receipts, agreements, and deeds; field notes and land records; and legal documents from the court.
